It is that time of year again when we delve into the wonderful world of Firm Finance. As part of this annual project, we take a look inside the books of the top 25 firms in Texas and see how they fared in 2015.

Last year was difficult for Texas as a whole, with plummeting oil prices disrupting business—especially in the Houston area. The price of a barrel of West Texas Intermediate Crude averaged $48.66 in 2015, compared with $93.25 in 2014. But Big Law’s finances overall in 2015 didn’t reflect that. In fact, gross revenue and net income was up year-over-year for the group of the top highest grossing firms in the state. Leading the pack was the highest-grossing firm Akin Gump, which also topped the chart in net income. In fact, among the 23 firms where we have numbers from last year, 14 improved on their net income.
