The State Bar of Texas is monitoring the criminal case of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, because if he’s convicted and sentenced, the matter would be ripe to file a petition seeking Paxton’s disbarment.

The fact came to light recently in an unusual way. New York lawyer Ty Clevenger wrote a blog post and sent emails to the media because the bar’s Office of Chief Disciplinary Counsel dismissed a grievance he filed against Paxton, and the Texas Board of Disciplinary Appeals upheld the dismissal last week.
