Trade groups of Texas plaintiffs and defense lawyers are totally opposed to the idea of nonlawyers owning law firms.

The Texas Association of Defense Counsel, Texas Trial Lawyers Association and Texas Chapters of the American Board of Trial Advocates recently expressed their displeasure in a joint letter to the American Bar Association, which has a commission that recently called for public comments about alternative law-firm business structures, including nonlawyer ownership of firms.
