A Dallas lawyer has resigned his law license because he faced 11 grievances alleging misconduct like completely missing hearings for clients, neglecting their cases and failing to supervise an employee who the lawyer knew was previously convicted of unauthorized practice of law.
For Douglas Joe Brooks to resign his law license is in the best interest of the public and the legal profession, ruled the Texas Supreme Court recently. The high court conclusively established the allegations of professional misconduct against Brooks for all purposes, said its order. If Brooks ever wants to regain his law license, he would have to pay $383,500 in restitution to 11 complainants, who are due sums ranging from $350 to $210,000, the high court ordered.
