While the Fifth Circuit faces a July deadline to make a decision in Texas’ voter ID law, another looming question involves whether a decision in the state’s favor could result in the governor calling a special session.
Several judges on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit peppered Texas Solicitor General Scott Keller and his opponents with questions during oral arguments this week about the challenge to the state’s voter ID law. But it was Judge Catharina Haynes who raised the prospect of Texas lawmakers meeting this summer for a special session to fix any flaws in the controversial statute.
