Three coal mining trade associations are raising concerns about the criminal conviction of ex-Massey Energy Chief Executive Officer Donald Blankenship for conspiracy to willfully violate mine health and safety regulations.
The trade associations—representing mining interests in Illinois, Ohio and West Virginia—on Tuesday filed an amicus brief in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, where Massey is challenging his conviction. The court hasn’t yet formally accepted the brief.
