A Houston mass tort lawyer has sued his former law firm, alleging they stiffed him for millions in promised bonus payments because the firm’s president had taken out a $20 million loan to purchase multiple vacation homes and a jet airplane.

According to Schwartz v. Galyen, which was recently filed in a Harris County District Court, Robert A. Schwartz states that he was hired by Bedford-based Bailey & Galyen in 2004 as managing attorney for the firm’s mass tort docket in Houston. The firm had previously never had a mass tort practice. Schwartz brought 2,500 new cases in to the firm and was eventually promoted to executive vice president of Bailey & Galyen not long after he was hired, according to his petition.
