Texas Lawyer: What criteria do you consider most important when selecting outside counsel?

Pat Tagtow: We look for expertise of the lawyer as opposed to any particular firm affiliation. In the case of patent cases, we are often the target of nonproducing entities (i.e., trolls), in which case we look for counsel with experience with the asserted patent or the asserting party.
