In the wake of the U.S. mortgage industry meltdown that peaked in 2008, key federal agencies are now focused on avoiding a similar fiasco in the energy sector.
Several agencies, including the Federal Reserve System, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. and the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency are increasingly taking a stricter approach to rating the risk level of banks’ loans to exploration and production companies.
