Aspiring associates without at least one federal clerkship under their belt shouldn’t bother applying to litigation powerhouse Susman Godfrey. But there’s good news for applicants that fit the bill. The firm announced Wednesday that it’s sweetening its hiring bonuses, with new lawyers eligible to get as much as $100,000 if they’ve clerked for more than one judge.

Susman Godfrey, which has offices in Houston, New York, Los Angeles and Seattle, said it will pay bonuses of $80,000 to new associates with a single clerkship, and a total bonus of $100,000 for associates that clerked for two or more judges. The firm also said it would pay “the going rate” for associates who clerked at the U.S. Supreme Court; in recent years such hires have commanded bonuses of $300,000 or more.
