Ann Ryan Robertson of Locke Lord LLP and Jennifer Smith of Hogan Lovells have both built big reputations in the male-dominated field of international arbitration. Robertson serves on the U.S. delegation to the North American Free Trade Agreement Advisory Committee on Private Commercial Disputes and is a past member of the International Chamber of Commerce Commission on Arbitration. Smith serves on the Executive Committee of the Institute for Transnational Arbitration. The two Houston lawyers are also backing the Equal Representation in Arbitration Pledge, a recent initiative to correct the underrepresentation of women on arbitral panels. So far over 1,200 lawyers, law firms businesses and institutions have signed the pledge, which calls for greater inclusion of women.
