It’s been a busy month on the deal front for Vinson & Elkins, which has advised on at least three $1 billion-plus transactions announced in October involving Texas energy companies. (See here and here.) The latest involves V&E client Houston-based QStar LLC, which is selling a big swath of Midland Basin assets to SM Energy Co. of Denver for $1.6 billion in cash and stock.

SM Energy also announced Oct. 18 that it has entered into a definitive agreement to sell acreage in North Dakota to Houston’s Oasis Petroleum for $785 million. SM Energy is relying upon its in-house team for both deals, while Oasis turned to DLA Piper for the purchase and to V&E for a related public offering.
