South Texas College of Law in Houston, facing a court order to quit using its new name of Houston College of Law, is negotiating with a “benefactor” who will sponsor a new name the school hopes to adopt soon.

Lynne Liberato, a partner in Haynes and Boone in Houston who represents South Texas College of Law, told a federal judge during a court hearing on Oct. 26 that the Houston law school’s board is expected to approve a new name by Nov. 4 and it would be announced shortly after that.
