The Permian Basin continues to be a hot area for energy deals, keeping lawyers busy this week with two multibillion acquisitions involving companies linked to legendary Texas wildcatters.

Midland energy company Clayton Williams Energy Inc., which is chaired by wildcatter and one-time Texas gubernatorial candidate Clayton Williams, has agreed to be acquired by Houston-based Noble Energy Inc. in a deal valued at $2.7 billion. Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom represents Noble Energy in the large Permian Basin deal, while shale producer Clayton Williams Energy turned to Latham & Watkins.
