Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law has renamed its moot court competition after a Dallas litigation boutique pledged to give $15,000 annually over the next three years to fund the competition.

The newly named Lynn Pinker Cox & Hurst Moot Court Competition is an annual gathering of state and federal judges who hear arguments from SMU Dedman’s moot court students. The competition enables students to hone their brief-writing and appellate advocacy skills and gain practical training. Formerly, the competition was named after Dallas firm Howie & Sweeney, which closed in 2011 after the death in 2002 of trial lawyer John Howie.
