As a lawyer who defends public school districts for a living, Dallas attorney Tom Brandt has developed a reputation for being at his best when the allegations against his clients are the worst.

In recent years, he convinced a federal judge to dismiss a case against a school district for failing to prevent the suicide of a 9-year-old boy who killed himself at school after he was targeted by bullies. Brandt also persuaded another federal judge to set aside a $1 million verdict for lack of evidence after a jury determined his client had failed to stop a teacher’s physical abuse of a special education student who had no ability to communicate.
