Jenifer Smith, a partner in DLA Piper in Austin, is one of eight lawyers from the firm who recently spent six days training 60 women lawyers in Nepal, where women lawyers do not have the same opportunities for training as women do in the United States.

Smith said most of the lawyers who attended the pro bono training sessions in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, are solo practitioners who have little formal professional support systems in place. In addition to training in substantive areas of the law, such as international arbitration, intellectual property, corporate law and ethics, Smith said the DLA Piper volunteer lawyers tried to help the women lawyers establish networking opportunities.
