“Rise of the DEO: Leadership By Design” offers guidance on the future of leadership. Authors Maria Giudice and Christopher Ireland write about leadership qualities, including humility, which they sum up with a quote from C.S. Lewis, “Humility is not thinking less of yourself, it’s thinking of yourself less.” As with other leadership qualities, they don’t just identify the quality; they show the reader how to develop the quality. Here are some of their suggested “workouts”:

• Stop talking. Stop trying to dominate. By giving up the spotlight, they write, leaders lower their own sense of stress, and their sense of control rises.
