As the likelihood that Texas Supreme Court Justices Nathan Hecht, Priscilla Owen and Al Gonzales would face Democratic challengers grew dimmer in the week before the filing deadline, the justices chased rumors that other Republicans would enter the races.

As of press time Dec. 30, no other Republicans or Democrats had filed for the three seats on the high court. But candidates have until 6 p.m. Jan. 3 to place their names on the ballot.
