When Suzanne Covington graduated from the University of Texas School of Law in 1977, she moved to a reservation to provide legal services to Navajo and Hopi tribe members. Although she lived there with no electricity, she says it was "fun" and "rewarding." Attorneys who appear before Covington, now a District Court judge in Austin, Tex., say such experiences help make her an outstanding jurist.
