Former state Treasurer Rob McCord, 55, pleaded guilty Tuesday to charges of extortion related to his attempts to secure campaign contributions for his 2014 gubernatorial bid.

In confirming his previously submitted plea agreement and statement of facts were accurate, McCord admitted he attempted to get leaders of a Philadelphia law firm and a western Pennsylvania property management company to donate money to his gubernatorial campaign under the threat their state contracts or benefits would otherwise be in jeopardy.

U.S. District Judge John E. Jones III of the Middle District of Pennsylvania accepted McCord's plea toward the end of a hearing that lasted less than an hour. Jones set a pre-sentencing conference for June 29. No sentencing date was scheduled.
