Attorneys offered opening statements Monday afternoon in the state-court defamation case of the gay lawyer who claimed two law firms scuttled his lateral move.

Plaintiff Jeffrey Downs sued Anapol Schwartz in the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas for defamation and tortious interference stemming from the aborted lateral move. The case is one of two filed by Downs; he sued Anapol Schwartz in federal court for defamation and retaliation and also sued Raynes McCarty for discrimination, retaliation and defamation in federal court.
