A motorcyclist who fractured her pelvis after being hit by a sedan in Dauphin County has settled her claim against the defendant-driver for $1.2 million.

The settlement came about a week after a Dauphin County jury awarded the motorcyclist nearly $1.3 million for her injuries. The verdict in Thompson v. Smith was handed up June 10, and the plaintiff reached a settlement with the defendant's insurance carrier, State Farm, on June 16.

According to court papers, defendant Elwood Smith collided with plaintiff Tracey Thompson as he pulled out of a restaurant's parking lot onto Derry Street in Harrisburg. Along with causing a hip fracture, Thompson claimed her liver was lacerated and a blood filter had to be installed to prevent an embolism.
