For the fourth time in three years, Villanova University School of Law has added a center for study to expand its curriculum, using a $2 million gift to establish the Center for Law and Religion, the school has announced.

Villanova will use a donation from Joseph T. McCullen Jr. and his wife, Eleanor McCullen, to open the center, which it said will be a hub for conferences and seminars dealing with issues involving the law and religion. It follows on the heels of three centers the law school has developed in recent years: the Jeffrey S. Moorad Center for the Study of Sports Law, established in 2012; the David F. and Constance B. Girard-diCarlo Center for Ethics, Integrity and Compliance, established in February; and the John F. Scarpa Center for Law and Entrepreneurship, established in March.

The center will offer new academic programming, including a visiting scholars program and conferences and seminars on topics relevant to its areas of study. The center will serve to sponsor interdisciplinary research, and the university is exploring initiatives that would involve clinical opportunities and a concentration program in law and religion.
