Editor's Note: Welcome to the 23rd edition of PaLaw: Annual Report on the Legal Profession. As is the case every year, our aim with this magazine is to thoroughly encapsulate the past year in the Pennsylvania legal community.

We often say in our newsroom that our number one job is giving readers information that will help them to be better lawyers. By providing an in-depth analysis of the past nearly 12 months in the profession, our hope is that looking backward will allow our readers to glean insights that can help guide them as they forge ahead into the coming year.

There's a lot to dive into here, including our annual 100 Largest Law Firms rankings and top Pennsylvania verdicts and settlements features.

But first, I'd just like to take a moment to thank everyone who put so much hard work into this magazine.

For Kristie Rearick, our magazines and supplements editor, this was her first year at the helm of this project and she threw herself into the role. Meanwhile, as he has for so many years, Brian Harris, our director of information and technology, managed the various databases of survey results we receive, which then get turned into the charts and graphs throughout the magazine. Gina Passarella, our former senior staff reporter who now leads ALM's national business of law desk, lent her wisdom and experience throughout the process of putting this publication together and contributed a thoughtful, informative piece providing context to and analysis of the results of our annual Managing Partners Survey.

And, of course, we couldn't do this without you, the reader. It's your input, through survey responses and interviews all year, that provides the foundation for this publication and we sincerely thank you for that. With PaLaw, we strive to put out a magazine that is indispensable to attorneys and we continually try to improve the reader experience based on the feedback we receive. With that in mind, please feel free to share your input on the magazine with us. We look forward to working with you in 2017 and for many more years to come.

The “100 Largest Law Firms in Pennsylvania” listing in PaLaw magazine should have noted Bennett, Bricklin & Saltzburg as having 71 attorneys in Pennsylvania, representing a gain of 16 lawyers from the previous year and placing them at number 37 on the list. In addition, the firm should have been included among the “Fastest-Growing Firms” on page 63.

The “100 Largest Law Firms in Pennsylvania” listing in PaLaw magazine should have noted Barley Snyder as having 71 attorneys in Pennsylvania, representing a gain of 10 lawyers from the previous year and placing them at number 37 (tied with Bennett Bricklin) on the list. In addition, the firm should have been included among the “Fastest-Growing Firms” on page 63.

The “100 Largest Law Firms in Pennsylvania” listing in PaLaw magazine should have noted Elliott Greenleaf as having 48 attorneys in Pennsylvania placing them at number 47 on the list. In addition, the firm should not have appeared on the “Fastest-Shrinking Firms” chart on page 63.

The “100 Largest Law Firms in Pennsylvania” listing in PaLaw magazine should have noted Montgomery McCracken Walker & Rhoads as having 82 attorneys in Pennsylvania placing them at number 27 on the list. In addition, the firm should have appeared at number 10 on the Fastest-Shrinking Firms chart.

The “Largest Awards & Settlements in Pa.” listing in PaLaw magazine should have included in the number 2 spot the $44.1 million verdict in Tate v. The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania obtained by plaintiffs attorney Robert Ross of Ross Feller Casey in Philadelphia. In Tate, a Philadelphia jury found that the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania failed to recognize a woman's adverse reaction to anti-coagulant medication before she suffered a brain hemorrhage.

The “100 Largest Law Firms” listing also should have included Malvern and Harrisburg; Washington, D.C.; and Chicago among the office locations for Stradley Ronon Stevens & Young.
