Under a measure that just passed the state Senate, Pennsylvania school district superintendents and assistant district superintendents would receive a 90-day notice before the expiration of their terms informing them of whether the board intends to retain them or search for new superintendent candidates.

The Senate passed the bill unanimously. It would amend Sections 1073(b) and 1077(b) of the Public School Code of 1949.

If the board of school directors doesn't make an announcement at least 90 days prior to the superintendent's term limits, that superintendent's term would be extended for one year.
