A man claiming to have been wrongfully convicted of murder may not sue the store that allegedly sold the murder weapon, a Pennsylvania judge has ruled.

Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas Judge Frederica Massiah-Jackson last week tossed claims that Robert Hall, an inmate at State Correctional Institute—Frackville, brought against the owner of a Philadelphia-area pawn shop that sold two guns that were allegedly later used in two murders.

Hall contended that both guns were sold to a 20-year-old, who at the time was a “fugitive prohibited from legally buying any guns,” but used fake identification and a false address for the purchase. However, Massiah-Jackson determined that the defendant could not have owed Hall any duty of care.
