Public Pensions

Gov. Tom Wolf on June 12 signed into law SB 1, a compromise bill that brings sweeping change to Pennsylvania public-employee pensions.

The measure reduces investment risk by more than half, said the chief lobbyist for the Pennsylvania School Boards Associations. Other public policy experts estimated that the new law could save anywhere from $5 billion to $20 billion over the next 30 years, and an additional $3 billion in reduced investment fees.

“Today is yet another demonstration that by working across party lines and branches of government, we can address important issues,” Wolf said at the signing ceremony in the Capitol Rotunda while flanked by leaders of both major parties in the General Assembly.
