K&L Gates is in the process of closing its office in Anchorage, Alaska, the firm confirmed Tuesday.

In a statement, the firm said it is working toward an “orderly closure,” which it expects to complete this summer. A spokesman said the firm decided to abandon the outpost earlier this year, “based on a combination of factors, including assessment of client demand, future prospects for growth in the office, and the approaching expiration of the office lease.”

According to K&L Gates' website, one lawyer remains in the office, administrative partner Jennifer Coughlin, who was not immediately available to comment. Whether Coughlin will stay affiliated with K&L Gates is unclear, as the firm declined to provide further information. She was a legacy partner of Preston Gates & Ellis, which became part of K&L Gates in 2007. Preston Gates established the Anchorage office in 1979 to represent government clients in Alaska.
