Following is a listing of executive and legislative action for the week of Aug. 14. Both houses of the General Assembly stood in recess subject to the call of each chambers' leaders at press time, with committee hearings scheduled beginning Wednesday.

Domestic Terrorism

Pennsylvania state Sen. Art Haywood, D-Montgomery, on Aug. 16 announced plans to revamp terrorism legislation in Pennsylvania.

The measure is in response to the attack in Charlottesville, Virginia, over the weekend of Aug. 12-13 that killed one anti-white supremacist protester, Heather Heyer, and injured scores of others, according to a statement released by Haywood.

“In light of the tragic events that took place in Charlottesville, we need to take meaningful steps to ensure that Pennsylvania has the proper deterrent on the books,” Haywood said. “Currently our laws do not fully address domestic terrorism and do not go far enough in dissuading and punishing those who conspire to or act on those inclinations.”
