In a recent memorandum, state Sen. Sharif Street, D-Philadelphia, said he would present legislation that would allow those sentenced to life sentences the option to seek parole.

According to Street's memo, his bill would give the option to seek parole to those serving a life sentence after they've served 15 years in prison.

The Board of Probation and Parole would grant and reject the parole requests. Street said his legislation would be a companion bill to HB 135, introduced by state Rep. Jason Dawkins, D-Philadelphia.
