State Sen. Kim L. Ward, R-Westmoreland, issued a memo declaring her intention to reinstate the impairment rating evaluations process after the Pennsylvania Supreme Court eliminated it in the Protz v. Workers' Compensation Appeals Board decision.

Impairment rating evaluations, according to her memo, have been used in Pennsylvania since 1996 and were used to determine, after two years, the medical level of impairment of a workers' compensation claimant.

Ward said her bill would reinstate the impairment rating evaluations process as specifically referenced in the sixth edition of the American Medical Association's “AMA Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment.”
