The Philadelphia Intellectual Property Law Association kicked off its 2017–18 program year by hosting IP attorney James W. Dabney of Hughes Hubbard & Reed, who successfully argued the TC Heartland case to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Additions

Stanley Majkut joined Kaplin Stewart Meloff Reiter & Stein in the firm's real estate transactions department.

Majkut was formerly with Obermayer Rebmann Maxwell & Hippel.

His practice focuses on the representation of sellers and buyers, landlords and tenants, developers and investors in various commercial real estate transactions.

Majkut's practice involves various real estate assets including office buildings, warehouses, retail shopping centers and malls and other commercial and residential properties.

Cohen Milstein Sellers & Toll added David M. Maser and Christina Donato Saler to the firm as of counsel in the securities litigation and investor protection group.

They bring years of experience and a track record of results for both public and private sector clients.

Before joining Cohen Milstein, Maser and Saler worked for almost a decade at Chimicles & Tikellis, a securities class action plaintiffs law firm.

At Chimicles & Tikellis, Maser worked with over 25 public fund and labor organizations with more than $200 billion in assets, recovering more than $3.6 billion for his clients.

In the early years of her career, Saler gained significant trial experience prosecuting First Amendment cases involving individual plaintiffs against media defendants.

Speakers

Stradley Ronon Stevens & Young partner Craig R. Blackman and counsel Jana M. Landon served as panelists at the Resource Center for Religious Institutes' national conference on Nov. 2 in St. Louis.

Blackman and Landon's panel, “Cyber Threats and Basic Security: Planning for Protection and Insurance Issues,” discussed identifying and quantifying cyber threats, understanding the implications of a breach, building a cost-effective management plan and purchasing insurance to cover losses.

Blackman and Landon are co-chairs of the firm's cyber insurance group.

Blackman focuses his practice on a variety of insurance industry issues, including commercial and personal lines, cyber, directors and officers and errors and omissions, general liability, land title, fidelity and surety and professional, employment and products liability.

Landon's practice focuses on advising lawyers and clients on data security and data management issues and legal, technical and strategic issues regarding information governance.

Announcements

The Philadelphia Bar Association's 2017 election of officers and members of the Board of Governors will be conducted via online ballot.

Officers to be elected are vice chancellor, secretary, treasurer, assistant secretary, assistant treasurer and five members of the Board of Governors for three-year terms.

Members are scheduled to receive their ballots in an email on Nov. 20 with instructions.
