CHIP Reauthorized Without Transgender Procedures Prohibition
On Nov. 20, the Pennsylvania House of Representatives unanimously approved legislation that extends CHIP to Dec. 31, 2019, without including a state Senate-approved prohibition on reimbursement for sex reassignment procedures for children enrolled in CHIP.

On Nov. 20, the Pennsylvania House of Representatives unanimously approved legislation that extends the Children's Health Insurance Program to Dec. 31, 2019, without including a state Senate-approved prohibition on reimbursement for sex reassignment procedures for children enrolled in CHIP.
The Senate passed the resolution extending CHIP funding until the end of 2019, on a 37-13 vote, on Oct. 25. That bill also contained language that prohibited health care benefit package reimbursement for gender or sex reassignment procedures to children.
The state House of Representatives amended that bill, striking out the sex reassignment procedure funding prohibition and passed the bill unanimously.
CHIP is taxpayer-funded health insurance available to uninsured children and teens who aren't eligible for or enrolled in medical assistance.
