Stradley Ronon Stevens & Young partners Joe N. Nguyen and Andrew K. Stutzman and associate John Vassalotti presented at the Pennsylvania Bar Institute's real estate CLE on Dec. 7 in Philadelphia.
Nguyen and Vassalotti presented “Navigating the Minefield: Hot Issues in Mortgage Litigation and Compliance,” which discussed legal arguments frequently used by borrowers to challenge a mortgage lender's standing to foreclose, as well as compliance with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau's rules regarding mortgage servicing.
Stutzman presented “Enforcement Trends,” which considered recent federal and state enforcement activity impacting the real estate industry.
Nguyen concentrates his litigation practice on representing financial services institutions in consumer-related matters, including class action defense and single plaintiff suits.
Stutzman is a Philadelphia trial lawyer who founded and chairs the financial services litigation practice at Stradley Ronon.
Vassalotti focuses his litigation practice on representing financial institutions in mortgage and consumer lending matters, with a particular emphasis on protecting and recovering real property from tax sales.

Fran Griesing was a panelist on “Grit: Secret Recipes of Successful Women Entrepreneurs” at Women's Entrepreneurship Day Philly.
Griesing is the founder and managing member of Griesing Law.
Her practice focuses primarily on providing clients with a high level of expertise in defending high-stakes litigation arising out of complex business transactions and handling sensitive employment matters for corporate clients through litigation and alternate dispute resolution.

On Dec. 4, Montgomery McCracken Walker & Rhoads partner Steven Pachman and associate Arianna Goodman guest lectured for Dr. Steven Broglio's Athletic Training Administration class at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
They presented “Legal Issues for Athletic Trainers” before a class of senior athletic training students. Pachman and Broglio both participated in the National Collegiate Athletic Association's most recent Safety in College Football Summit, which resulted in interassociation best practices recommendations related to the diagnosis and management of sport-related concussion in the collegiate setting.
Elected and Appointed
Retired Judge A. Michael Snyder is set to serve as vice chancellor of the Philadelphia Bar Association in 2018 after running unopposed in the association's 2017 annual election.
Snyder will serve as vice chancellor in 2018, chancellor-elect in 2019 and chancellor in 2020.
Jennifer S. Coatsworth was elected as assistant secretary and Matthew S. Olesh was elected as assistant treasurer.
The following candidates for association offices ran unopposed and are set to begin serving in their positions on Jan. 1, 2018: Marc J. Zucker as secretary and Regina M. Foley as treasurer.
The following five candidates were elected and are scheduled to begin serving their three-year terms on the association's Board of Governors on Jan. 1:

The case, filed Oct. 2 in Massachusetts District Court by the Brown Law Firm on behalf of Stephen Austen, accuses certain officers and directors of misleading investors in regard to Symbotic's potential for margin growth by failing to disclose that the company was not equipped to timely deploy its systems or manage expenses through project delays. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton, is 1:24-cv-12522, Austen v. Cohen et al.

Edmund Polubinski and Marie Killmond of Davis Polk & Wardwell have entered appearances for data platform software development company MongoDB and other defendants in a pending shareholder derivative lawsuit. The action, filed Oct. 7 in New York Southern District Court by the Brown Law Firm, accuses the company's directors and/or officers of falsely expressing confidence in the company’s restructuring of its sales incentive plan and downplaying the severity of decreases in its upfront commitments. The case is 1:24-cv-07594, Roy v. Ittycheria et al.

The suit was filed Sept. 7 in Wisconsin Western District Court by Levine Eisberner LLC and Siri & Glimstad on behalf of a project manager who claims that he was wrongfully terminated after applying for a religious exemption to the defendant's COVID-19 vaccine mandate. The case, assigned to U.S. Magistrate Judge Anita Marie Boor, is 3:24-cv-00630, Secker, Nathan v. Epic Systems Corporation.

David X. Sullivan, Thomas J. Finn and Gregory A. Hall from McCarter & English have entered appearances for Sunrun Installation Services in a pending civil rights lawsuit. The complaint was filed Sept. 4 in Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M. Berke on behalf of former employee George Edward Steins, who was arrested and charged with employing an unregistered home improvement salesperson. The complaint alleges that had Sunrun informed the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection that the plaintiff's employment had ended in 2017 and that he no longer held Sunrun's home improvement contractor license, he would not have been hit with charges, which were dismissed in May 2024. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Jeffrey A. Meyer, is 3:24-cv-01423, Steins v. Sunrun, Inc. et al.
