Renee Smith joined Montgomery McCracken Walker & Rhoads as of counsel in the litigation department and a member of the labor and employment practice group.
Smith has represented national, regional and local employers in employment litigation involving claims under federal and state law.
Her practice also focuses on counseling employers on a wide range of employment issues and conducting workplace trainings and investigations.

Marshall Dennehey Warner Coleman & Goggin elevated several attorneys to shareholder. In Philadelphia, the new shareholders are:
• Lawrence J. Bartel, shareholder in the firm's professional liability department, concentrates his practice in the areas of consumer financial services litigation and compliance.
• Mary Kate McGrath, shareholder in the firm's health care department, has experience in the defense of health care providers, hospitals, health systems, rehabilitation centers and skilled nursing facilities from the onset of a client's involvement in a case through the appellate level.
• Michelle I. Moses, shareholder in the firm's health care department, focuses her practice on the defense of health care professionals including podiatrists, emergency department physicians, hospitalists and other specialists in medical malpractice claims.
• Jennie Philip, shareholder in the firm's professional liability department, focuses her practice on bad-faith litigation and insurance fraud matters on behalf of a wide range of insurance carriers.
• Andrea C. Rock, shareholder in the firm's workers' compensation department, concentrates her practice in the defense of employers and self-insureds in all manner of workers' compensation matters.

Ann Baiada and Mark Baiada are set to be presented with the 2018 Judge Lois G. Forer Child Advocacy Award by the Support Center for Child Advocates from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. April 18 at the Crystal Tea Room at the Wanamaker Building in Philadelphia.
This year, Support Center for Child Advocates is recognizing philanthropists and community leaders Ann and Mark Baiada with the 2018 Judge Lois G. Forer Child Advocacy Award for their commitment to the needs of young people and their efforts to provide support and opportunities to disadvantaged children.

Registration is now open for team and individual entries for the 39th annual Philadelphia Bar Association charity run/walk benefiting the Support Center for Child Advocates scheduled May 20 at Memorial Hall in Fairmount Park.
Online registration for individuals is now open and accessible through May 18 at www.phillybarcharityrun.com.
Runners who register online by Feb. 28 will receive $5 off their registration fee.
The deadline for mail-in registration forms, which can also be downloaded from the site, is May 11.
Applications and information for the Caesar Rivise-sponsored legal team competition can also be obtained online and downloaded at www.phillybarcharityrun.com.

Pre-registration is encouraged because the entry fee on the day of the event is $45. •

Driscoll from Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr have stepped in to represent Symbotic Inc., an A.I.-enabled technology platform that focuses on increasing supply chain efficiency, and other defendants in a pending shareholder derivative lawsuit. The case, filed Oct. 2 in Massachusetts District Court by the Brown Law Firm on behalf of Stephen Austen, accuses certain officers and directors of misleading investors in regard to Symbotic's potential for margin growth by failing to disclose that the company was not equipped to timely deploy its systems or manage expenses through project delays. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton, is 1:24-cv-12522, Austen v. Cohen et al.

Edmund Polubinski and Marie Killmond of Davis Polk & Wardwell have entered appearances for data platform software development company MongoDB and other defendants in a pending shareholder derivative lawsuit. The action, filed Oct. 7 in New York Southern District Court by the Brown Law Firm, accuses the company's directors and/or officers of falsely expressing confidence in the company’s restructuring of its sales incentive plan and downplaying the severity of decreases in its upfront commitments. The case is 1:24-cv-07594, Roy v. Ittycheria et al.

The suit was filed Sept. 7 in Wisconsin Western District Court by Levine Eisberner LLC and Siri & Glimstad on behalf of a project manager who claims that he was wrongfully terminated after applying for a religious exemption to the defendant's COVID-19 vaccine mandate. The case, assigned to U.S. Magistrate Judge Anita Marie Boor, is 3:24-cv-00630, Secker, Nathan v. Epic Systems Corporation.

David X. Sullivan, Thomas J. Finn and Gregory A. Hall from McCarter & English have entered appearances for Sunrun Installation Services in a pending civil rights lawsuit. The complaint was filed Sept. 4 in Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M. Berke on behalf of former employee George Edward Steins, who was arrested and charged with employing an unregistered home improvement salesperson. The complaint alleges that had Sunrun informed the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection that the plaintiff's employment had ended in 2017 and that he no longer held Sunrun's home improvement contractor license, he would not have been hit with charges, which were dismissed in May 2024. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Jeffrey A. Meyer, is 3:24-cv-01423, Steins v. Sunrun, Inc. et al.
