The Pennsylvania Bar Association children's rights committee named Delaware County Court of Common Pleas Judge Nathaniel C. Nichols of Media as its Child Advocate of the Year.
Nichols is set to receive the award at a luncheon ceremony during the committee's spring training program, “Current Issues for Child Advocates 2018,” taking place April 20 at the Pennsylvania Bar Institute in Mechanicsburg.
The award recognizes the accomplishments of lawyers and judges who are advocates for children within the commonwealth or who are involved with child advocacy.
Nichols has been serving as the primary judge for both Juvenile Dependency Court and Juvenile Delinquency Court in Delaware County since his election in 2011.
Prior to that, he was associate dean of students and a professor at Widener University School of Law, an attorney in private practice and managing attorney at the Delaware County Legal Assistance Association.

Barley Snyder partner Jill Welch was named to the board of directors of the Pennsylvania Dutch Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
Welch is a member of the firm's employment practice group.
She counsels companies in handling workplace challenges and helps clients resolve disputes, claims, cases and litigation in all aspects of labor and employment law.
As an employment law counselor, Welch assists in developing employment policies, employee handbook provisions, noncompete and restrictive covenants and severance agreements, and has assisted companies through difficult layoffs and reductions in force.

Furia Rubel Communications Inc. president and CEO Gina Rubel, is set to present “Social Media: Ethics, Errors and Establishing Guidelines” for Pennsylvania government finance officers at their annual meeting on April 25 in State College at the Penn Stater Conference Center.
During the program, Rubel, a marketing and crisis management expert and attorney, will discuss ways that Pennsylvania government finance officers can embrace social media to implement ethical and effective social media tactics.
Rubel founded Furia Rubel Marketing and Public Relations, a strategic planning and integrated marketing agency, in 2002.

The case, filed Oct. 2 in Massachusetts District Court by the Brown Law Firm on behalf of Stephen Austen, accuses certain officers and directors of misleading investors in regard to Symbotic's potential for margin growth by failing to disclose that the company was not equipped to timely deploy its systems or manage expenses through project delays. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton, is 1:24-cv-12522, Austen v. Cohen et al.

The complaint was filed Sept. 4 in Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M. Berke on behalf of former employee George Edward Steins, who was arrested and charged with employing an unregistered home improvement salesperson. The complaint alleges that had Sunrun informed the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection that the plaintiff's employment had ended in 2017 and that he no longer held Sunrun's home improvement contractor license, he would not have been hit with charges, which were dismissed in May 2024.
