West Chester Mayor Dianne Herrin was among the female professionals, business owners and community members who gathered on May 3 for the seventh annual women's networking event at the law firm Gawthrop Greenwood in downtown West Chester.
The event was launched by Gawthrop Greenwood partner Sandra Knapp, who in 2011 became the first woman in Chester County to be elected to manage a midsize law firm and was just re-elected this year.
|Elected and Appointed
Jacqueline B. Martinez, founder of Pittsburgh's JBM Legal, is set to start a three-year term on the Pennsylvania Bar Association board of governors.
She is one of 12 zone governors who serve on the PBA board of governors, Martinez will represent Allegheny County lawyers.
Martinez previously served as a PBA at-large governor representing minority lawyers from across the state.
Since 2016, Martinez has been chair of the PBA Membership Development Committee, which develops and implements programs and services enhancing the value of membership in the association.
Since 2014, Martinez has served on the council of the PBA solo and small firm section.

Barley Snyder's Daniel M. Frey was elected to the board of directors of Main Street Hanover Inc. and was named the board's vice chairman.
Frey is of counsel in the firm's Hanover office.
He is a former assistant district attorney in York County and a former past president of the board of directors of the York County Bar Association.
Frey practices in Barley Snyder's business, finance and creditors' rights, personal planning and real estate practice groups, as well as the municipal and municipal authority and food and agribusiness industry groups.
He was managing partner of Barley Snyder from 2003 to 2008.

McNees Wallace & Nurick attorneys Randy Varner and Paul Morcom co-authored the Pennsylvania Bar Institute's 16th edition of “Assessment Law and Procedure in Pennsylvania,” a reference for real estate assessment law.
The book includes a step-by-step guide of the tax assessment and appeal process in Pennsylvania.
Varner and Morcom are also set to present the new edition at PBI seminars in June and July in Pittsburgh, Mechanicsburg and Philadelphia.
Varner is co-chair of the McNees Wallace state and local tax practice group.
Varner represents commercial and industrial entities in all areas of state and local taxation, focusing on state corporate net income, capital stock/foreign franchise, sales and use, and gross receipts taxes, as well as local property taxes, including real estate assessment.
Morcom is a member of the McNees Wallace state and local tax practice group.
He represents commercial and industrial entities in all areas of state and local taxation, focusing on local property taxes and real estate assessment appeals, as well as state corporate net income, capital stock/foreign franchise, sales and use, public utility realty tax and gross receipts taxes.

The case, filed Oct. 2 in Massachusetts District Court by the Brown Law Firm on behalf of Stephen Austen, accuses certain officers and directors of misleading investors in regard to Symbotic's potential for margin growth by failing to disclose that the company was not equipped to timely deploy its systems or manage expenses through project delays. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton, is 1:24-cv-12522, Austen v. Cohen et al.

The action, filed Oct. 7 in New York Southern District Court by the Brown Law Firm, accuses the company's directors and/or officers of falsely expressing confidence in the company’s restructuring of its sales incentive plan and downplaying the severity of decreases in its upfront commitments. David X. Sullivan, Thomas J. Finn and Gregory A. Hall from McCarter & English have entered appearances for Sunrun Installation Services in a pending civil rights lawsuit. The complaint was filed Sept. 4 in Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M. Berke on behalf of former employee George Edward Steins, who was arrested and charged with employing an unregistered home improvement salesperson. The complaint alleges that had Sunrun informed the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection that the plaintiff's employment had ended in 2017 and that he no longer held Sunrun's home improvement contractor license, he would not have been hit with charges, which were dismissed in May 2024. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Jeffrey A. Meyer, is 3:24-cv-01423, Steins v. Sunrun, Inc. et al.
