Pennsylvania Rep. Michael J. Driscoll, D-Philadelphia, announced his intention to introduce legislation designed to strengthen the state Unfair Trade Practices and Consumer Protection Law.

“My bill, based off of New Jersey law, creates a deceptive practice when a contract uses confusing or vague language to create provisions that can become void, unenforceable or inapplicable,” Driscoll said in a June 27 memorandum. “Anyone who enters into a contract or receives a notice needs to be able to have full disclosure and understanding of what may become void or unenforceable, along with what triggers these actions. Violators would be liable for a civil penalty of at least $100, actual damages or both recoverable by consumers.”
