Rate Flexibility Could Help Fox Rothschild Find Fit in Southeast Market
A combination with Smith Moore Leatherwood would add six offices and more than 100 lawyers to Fox Rothschild, which currently has 21 offices and about 800 lawyers.

"There's a good financial services center down there … that's a reason why a number of firms feel like they want to be there, they may want to go there." More than 60 of the 500 largest U.S. law firms by head count have a presence in North Carolina, according to data from Legal affiliate The National Law Journal's NLJ 500. But only 10 NLJ 500 firms are based in North Carolina, including Smith Moore. Fox Rothschild entered the Am Law 100 in 2015, based on its 2014 revenue. That year , it brought in gross revenue of $331.5 million and had a head count of 560. Since then, the firm has added nearly 200 lawyers and over $100 million in gross revenue. It came in at 75 on the 2018 Am Law 100, with $453 million in revenue in 2017. Over the same three years (2014–2017), revenue per lawyer increased by just 2.9 percent, from $590,000 to $609,000. |
