Adrian Talamantes spent just 18 months at Morgan Lewis before Holland & Knight's "on-the-ground" presence in Mexico and Colombia lured him away.

Adrian Talamantes, an energy lawyer who handles Latin America projects and transactions, has joined Holland & Knight's Houston office, after 18 months at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius in Houston.
Talamantes joined Holland & Knight's Houston office Nov. 19 as a senior counsel in the firm's Latin America and energy practices. He represents companies and individuals in domestic and international transactions including project development, joint ventures, acquisitions and divestitures.
Talamantes said he moved to Holland & Knight because of its strong energy practice and presence in Mexico and South America.
“I was looking for a dynamic that I did not have at any of my previous firms, and that was on-the-ground-boots presence in Mexico City and Bogota,” he said.

He declined to identify his clients, but noted that clients and prospective clients made it clear to him that they prefer he work at a firm that has an office in Mexico City. He said his focus is on upstream oil and gas and midstream project development transactions, and Holland & Knight is striving to expand its capabilities in Latin America.
Talamantes is fluent in Spanish and is licensed in Texas and Mexico.
Roberto Pupo, a Holland & Knight partner in Miami who heads the firm's Latin America practice, said in a statement that Talamantes has an impressive background that includes working with large energy companies on sophisticated deals.
“His overall experience in Latin America and his unique ability to address and negotiate complex matters in both Spanish and English make him a highly valuable addition to our team and a great resource to our clients, particularly those in the energy sector,” Pupo wrote.
Talamantes will work closely with firm attorneys in Mexico and Colombia and will focus on building the firm's brand in Texas, Pupo added.
Talamantes joined Morgan Lewis in May 2017 as the firm expanded its global transactions and Latin America practices. He came to Morgan Lewis from King & Spalding, along with partner Juan-Pablo “John” Crespo.

The complaint was filed Sept. 4 in Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M.
