Richard Jurewicz, a senior partner at Galfand Berger, presented at the Pennsylvania Bar Institute's course on the “Interplay of Workers' Compensation and Third-Party Cases.”
The course discussed on-the-job-injuries and related third-party cases.
The presentation covered ways to maximize recovery options for clients, what questions to ask clients during intake, how to determine the role you want to play in the third-party cases, and unique issues that can arise in the coordination of claims.
Jurewicz handles Galfand Berger's catastrophic products liability, construction accident and automobile cases.
He has spent his entire professional career with Galfand Berger since joining the firm's litigation department in 1984.

Stradley Ronon Stevens & Young partners Christopher E. Cummings, Catherine M. Ward and Mark E. Chopko presented at the Resource Center for Religious Institutes' 2018 National Conference on Oct. 31 in Orlando, Florida.
Cummings and Ward presented, “Real Estate 201: Planning for the Future,” which discussed strategies for religious organizations that need to dispose of or repurpose real estate assets that are no longer needed for the organization's charitable or religious mission.
Chopko's panel, “#MeToo and #Insurance, Too,” explored the stream of new claims now facing educational, service and religious organizations based on adult harassment and exploitation, the legal basis for these claims and how insurance is dealing with coverage of those risks.
Cummings, a past chair of Stradley Ronon's real estate practice group, represents clients with acquisitions, dispositions, sale/leasebacks, 1031 like-kind exchanges, commercial leasing and mortgaged-based financing, and also advises clients on construction and development projects. Ward is co-chair of the firm's environmental practice group and a member of the real estate practice group. Her practice involves strategizing and overseeing redevelopment projects and identifying grant funding.
Chopko chairs Stradley Ronon's nonprofit and religious organizations practice group and advises clients, including colleges and universities, in matters involving structural, business, governance, regulatory and complex litigation.

The Chartwell Law Offices partner Robert J. Baker presented at the Indiana County Area Society for Human Resource Management on Nov. 9.
His presentation centered on “Medical Marijuana in the Workplace.”
Baker focuses his practice on the defense of general employment and workers' compensation matters.
He routinely represents employers in labor and employment matters, including Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission/ Equal Employment Opportunity Commission litigation.
He has also handled various human resources including hiring, firing, progressive discipline, payroll, compensation and benefits, Occupational Safety and Health Administration/risk management and training and development.

Driscoll from Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr have stepped in to represent Symbotic Inc., an A.I.-enabled technology platform that focuses on increasing supply chain efficiency, and other defendants in a pending shareholder derivative lawsuit. The case, filed Oct. 2 in Massachusetts District Court by the Brown Law Firm on behalf of Stephen Austen, accuses certain officers and directors of misleading investors in regard to Symbotic's potential for margin growth by failing to disclose that the company was not equipped to timely deploy its systems or manage expenses through project delays. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton, is 1:24-cv-12522, Austen v. Cohen et al.

Edmund Polubinski and Marie Killmond of Davis Polk & Wardwell have entered appearances for data platform software development company MongoDB and other defendants in a pending shareholder derivative lawsuit. The action, filed Oct. 7 in New York Southern District Court by the Brown Law Firm, accuses the company's directors and/or officers of falsely expressing confidence in the company’s restructuring of its sales incentive plan and downplaying the severity of decreases in its upfront commitments. The case is 1:24-cv-07594, Roy v. Ittycheria et al.

The suit was filed Sept. 7 in Wisconsin Western District Court by Levine Eisberner LLC and Siri & Glimstad on behalf of a project manager who claims that he was wrongfully terminated after applying for a religious exemption to the defendant's COVID-19 vaccine mandate. The case, assigned to U.S. Magistrate Judge Anita Marie Boor, is 3:24-cv-00630, Secker, Nathan v. Epic Systems Corporation.

David X. Sullivan, Thomas J. Finn and Gregory A. Hall from McCarter & English have entered appearances for Sunrun Installation Services in a pending civil rights lawsuit. The complaint was filed Sept. 4 in Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M. Berke on behalf of former employee George Edward Steins, who was arrested and charged with employing an unregistered home improvement salesperson. The complaint alleges that had Sunrun informed the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection that the plaintiff's employment had ended in 2017 and that he no longer held Sunrun's home improvement contractor license, he would not have been hit with charges, which were dismissed in May 2024. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Jeffrey A. Meyer, is 3:24-cv-01423, Steins v. Sunrun, Inc. et al.
