- On Jan. 15, the Philadelphia Bar Association will present the CLE video encore—Moving Beyond Cash Bail, from 12:30-2:30 p.m, at the Philadelphia Bar Association, 11th Floor Conference Center, 1101 Market St., Philadelphia. This CLE program will examine the cash bail system in Pennsylvania. There is a growing consensus that the cash bail system is broken, but how do we fix it? Panelists will illuminate these problems and offer guidance regarding the most promising strategies for reforming cash bail practices. 2 substantive CLE credits are available. - On Jan. 18, the Philadelphia Bar Association will present the CLE video encore—Best Practices and Practical Tips for Establishing an Effective Pro Bono Program, from 9:30-11 a.m., at the Philadelphia Bar Association, 11th Floor Conference Center, 1101 Market St., Philadelphia. Building on key recommendations from the Philadelphia Bar Association's 2017 pro bono task force report, this CLE program will provide insights from the field and practical tips for establishing or strengthening a pro bono program in your legal practice setting. Attendees will come away from the session with real-world examples of successful pro bono programs (and the lessons learned in establishing them); sample pro bono policies and committee structures; and, if desired, enlist a mentor to help them get started. 1.5 substantive CLE credits are available. - On Jan. 24, Philadelphia VIP will hold a free “Quiet Title Volunteer Training Program,” from noon-2:30 p.m., at Fox Rothschild, 2000 Market St., Suite 2000, Philadelphia. This training, led by statewide experts Edward Hayes and Bob Tintner, will explain how to transfer title of a property into a low-income client's name through the filing of a Quiet Title action. It covers the legal grounds, procedures, and forms for bringing a Quiet Title action, with an emphasis on the issues that low-income clients frequently encounter in obtaining title to a property. - On Jan. 25, Philadelphia VIP will hold a free introductory ”Landlord/Tenant Law Volunteer Training Program,” from 8:30-11a.m., at Pepper Hamilton, 3000 Two Logan Square, Philadelphia. This program will provide an overview of landlord/tenant law, as well as practical information about representing a client in a landlord/tenant dispute in the Philadelphia courts. - On Jan. 31, Philadelphia VIP will hold a “Nonprofit Legal Assessment Training Program and Clinic,” from 9:30 a.m.-12 p.m., at the Parkway Central Library, 1901 Vine St., 4th Floor, Philadelphia. Volunteers will help clients identify and address key legal issues facing Philadelphia nonprofits, such as drafting contracts and securing 501(c)(3) status. Each participating attorney will provide post-clinic legal assistance to one participating nonprofit on a discrete matter. - On Jan. 31, the Philadelphia Bar Association will present the CLE video encore—How to Properly Handle an Asylum Application and Case, from 9-11 a.m., at the Philadelphia Bar Association, 11th Floor Conference Center, 1101 Market St., Philadelphia. This practical video-encore program examines the basics of asylum law, including the legal standard for asylum and differences between asylum and refugee status, withholding, and CAT; the nuts and bolts of an asylum application, including how to fill out the form and what to include in an asylum application; the ethics of filing asylum cases, including frivolous cases; case law and much more. 1 substantive/1 ethics CLE credits are available. - On Jan. 31, the Philadelphia Bar Association will present the CLE video encore—The Gift of the Magi: How to File Immigration Appeals, Especially in Federal Court, from 12:30-2:30 p.m., at the Philadelphia Bar Association, 11th Floor Conference Center, 1101 Market St., Philadelphia. With immigration laws constantly in flux, it's more important than ever to keep up with the latest in the immigration landscape. This ever-evolving practice area highlights the need to provide clients with multifaceted strategies and solutions to complex circumstances. In this practical video-encore program, panelists offer guidance and fundamental information regarding immigration appeal practice. Attendees will learn the procedures regarding how to structure and file an appeal and understand where to file, competently lodge appeals and capably compose motions. 2 substantive CLE credits are available. - On Feb. 8, the Philadelphia Bar Association will present the “Liberty & Justice Conference: Moving from Some to All,” from 9 a.m. (registration begins at 8:30 a.m.)-4:30 p.m., at Thomas R. Kline Institute of Trial Advocacy, 12th & Chestnut streets, Philadelphia. The Philadelphia Bar Association and Philadelphia area law schools are again bringing together practitioners, law students and community activists from throughout the region to discuss issues of importance in social justice lawyering. This 2nd annual conference will feature progressive, social justice advocates from the Philadelphia area gathered to address critical topics in social justice lawyering, such as, legalized exclusion—the racial wealth divide, human toll of U.S. immigration policies, ethics and lawyer activism, criminal justice reform, LGBT youth in foster care and homelessness, restorative justice, participatory defense and more. J. Brugh Lower of Gibbons has entered an appearance for industrial equipment supplier Devco Corporation in a pending trademark infringement lawsuit. The suit, accusing the defendant of selling knock-off Graco products, was filed Dec. 18 in New Jersey District Court by Rivkin Radler on behalf of Graco Inc. and Graco Minnesota. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Zahid N. Quraishi, is 3:24-cv-11294, Graco Inc. et al v. Devco Corporation.

Rebecca Maller-Stein and Kent A. Yalowitz of Arnold & Porter Kaye Scholer have entered their appearances for Hanaco Venture Capital and its executives, Lior Prosor and David Frankel, in a pending securities lawsuit. The action, filed on Dec. 24 in New York Southern District Court by Zell, Aron & Co. on behalf of Goldeneye Advisors, accuses the defendants of negligently and fraudulently managing the plaintiff's $1 million investment. Attorneys from A&O Shearman has stepped in as defense counsel for Toronto-Dominion Bank and other defendants in a pending securities class action. The suit, filed Dec. 11 in New York Southern District Court by Bleichmar Fonti & Auld, accuses the defendants of concealing the bank's 'pervasive' deficiencies in regards to its compliance with the Bank Secrecy Act and the quality of its anti-money laundering controls. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian, is 1:24-cv-09445, Gonzalez v. The Toronto-Dominion Bank et al.

Crown Castle International, a Pennsylvania company providing shared communications infrastructure, has turned to Luke D. Wolf of Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani to fend off a pending breach-of-contract lawsuit. The court action, filed Nov. 25 in Michigan Eastern District Court by Hooper Hathaway PC on behalf of The Town Residences LLC, accuses Crown Castle of failing to transfer approximately $30,000 in utility payments from T-Mobile in breach of a roof-top lease and assignment agreement.
