State Rep. Brian Ellis, R-Butler, who is under criminal investigation for sexual assault allegations, on March 11 was placed on leave from the state House of Representatives for a fourth consecutive session week, and has yet to make an appearance in the chamber since taking the oath of office for his eighth term Jan. 1, according to a report on the PennLive website.

Media reports in January said Ellis was under investigation by the Dauphin County District Attorney's office.

Ellis has not been charged with wrongdoing.

According to PennLive, a House GOP spokesman said the leave request did not come with any indication of when Ellis may return to work. The lawmaker has also been absent from his district office, according to the Butler Eagle newspaper. PennLive did not receive a response from Ellis to messages seeking comment.

Pennsylvania Victim Advocate Jennifer Storm told media outlets, including the Law & Crime blog, in January that Ellis sexually assaulted a woman who was incapacitated by a drug. The alleged incident took place after Ellis met the woman at a Harrisburg bar in October 2015.

Wolf and Republican leaders have called on Ellis to resign. Ellis was stripped of all committee assignments, including his role as chairman of the House Consumer Affairs Committee.

Dauphin County District Attorney Fran Chardo has declined comment on the matter.
