Holland & Knight partner David Surbeck joined the board of directors of Philadelphia VIP. Founded in 1981, the organization provides legal services for low-income residents and families facing civil legal problems that threaten their basic human needs, including shelter, employment, financial stability, education and health.
Each year, its volunteers and staff serve more than 3,500 individuals and families who could not otherwise afford attorneys.
Surbeck is a transactional attorney at the firm who represents banks, funds, agencies, companies and individuals in various commercial finance transactions, ESOP transactions, debt restructurings and fund finance.

Emily J. Gorge was hired as an associate attorney practicing personal injury law at Graham & Mauer.
Gorge earned her law degree from Widener University Delaware Law School. While in law school, Gorge worked for the Chester County District Attorney's Office as a certified legal intern.
In this position, Gorge represented the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in Magisterial District Courts in Chester County and the Chester County Court of Common Pleas.
Outside of work, Gorge serves as the elected tax collector of East Pikeland Township and is a member of the events and program committees for Orion Communities, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping neighbors in need.

The Law Offices of Manuela Morais announced that principal, Manuela Morais, was named one of 20 “Women to Watch” for 2019 by South Jersey Biz.
According to the publication, this group consists of business leaders and others who have made an impact in their field as well as the community.
Morais was recognized for her work in immigration law, mentorship and community efforts, including with the Girl Scouts of Central and Southern New Jersey and the Rotary Club of Moorestown, New Jersey.
Morais represents corporate clients, their employees and individuals before federal governmental agencies.
She is licensed as a practicing attorney in New Jersey and is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association, the New Jersey State Bar Association and the Burlington County Bar Association.
Prior to founding the firm, Morais was of counsel and manager of the immigration practice at Blank Rome as well as an associate in the immigration practice at Pepper Hamilton.

David S. Pollock, founding partner of downtown-based family law firm Pollock Begg Komar Glasser & Vertz, was again selected as a recipient of the Pennsylvania Bar Association Special Achievement Award for his dedication and commitment as editor-in-chief of the Pennsylvania Family Lawyer, and was bestowed with a Special Recognition Award from the PBA family law section for his longime service as editor-in chief of the same publication.
Pollock focuses on the economics of premarital agreements, separation, divorce, unmarried partners, equitable distribution, support and alimony, as well as estate planning, business and family succession planning as an adjunct to his family law practice.
He works with both traditional divorces and large cases that require complex business valuation, framing of assets, net disposable income, taxation and all aspects of complicated financial matters involved in such cases.

Driscoll from Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr have stepped in to represent Symbotic Inc., an A.I.-enabled technology platform that focuses on increasing supply chain efficiency, and other defendants in a pending shareholder derivative lawsuit. The case, filed Oct. 2 in Massachusetts District Court by the Brown Law Firm on behalf of Stephen Austen, accuses certain officers and directors of misleading investors in regard to Symbotic's potential for margin growth by failing to disclose that the company was not equipped to timely deploy its systems or manage expenses through project delays. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton, is 1:24-cv-12522, Austen v. Cohen et al.

Edmund Polubinski and Marie Killmond of Davis Polk & Wardwell have entered appearances for data platform software development company MongoDB and other defendants in a pending shareholder derivative lawsuit. The action, filed Oct. 7 in New York Southern District Court by the Brown Law Firm, accuses the company's directors and/or officers of falsely expressing confidence in the company’s restructuring of its sales incentive plan and downplaying the severity of decreases in its upfront commitments. The case is 1:24-cv-07594, Roy v. Ittycheria et al.

The suit was filed Sept. 7 in Wisconsin Western District Court by Levine Eisberner LLC and Siri & Glimstad on behalf of a project manager who claims that he was wrongfully terminated after applying for a religious exemption to the defendant's COVID-19 vaccine mandate. The case, assigned to U.S. Magistrate Judge Anita Marie Boor, is 3:24-cv-00630, Secker, Nathan v. Epic Systems Corporation.

David X. Sullivan, Thomas J. Finn and Gregory A. Hall from McCarter & English have entered appearances for Sunrun Installation Services in a pending civil rights lawsuit. The complaint was filed Sept. 4 in Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M. Berke on behalf of former employee George Edward Steins, who was arrested and charged with employing an unregistered home improvement salesperson. The complaint alleges that had Sunrun informed the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection that the plaintiff's employment had ended in 2017 and that he no longer held Sunrun's home improvement contractor license, he would not have been hit with charges, which were dismissed in May 2024. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Jeffrey A. Meyer, is 3:24-cv-01423, Steins v. Sunrun, Inc. et al.
