Weber Gallagher Simpson Stapleton Fires & Newby welcomed partner June J. Essis to the firm.

Essis joins the firm's commercial transportation group and will be based in the Philadelphia office.

Essis has more than 25 years of experience litigating a variety of insurance defense claims in Pennsylvania.

She has experience representing trucking companies and truck drivers in accident-related claims alleging personal injury, catastrophic loss and property damage.

She also handles statutory violations and vehicle code violations on behalf of many truck drivers.

Essis often lectures on issues related to the trucking industry.

Honored

At a ceremony held this past week at Westfield Insurance in Lancaster, Westfield Claims vice president Doug Hall presented Daniel L. Petrilli of Timoney Knox with the Golden Gavel Award.

The Golden Gavel Award is a formal monthly recognition program designed to recognize outstanding achievement by outside counsel partners.

The award is specifically related to Petrilli's victory at a recent trial in Berks County. In the history of the company, Westfield Insurance has only awarded two Golden Gavels related to property insurance in Pennsylvania.

Events

Stradley Ronon Stevens & Young partner Kevin R. Casey hosted four students in two teams and served as judge for their Temple Law IP Moot Court practice trial.

The teams are preparing for the American IP Law Association Giles Rich Memorial Moot Court competition and hope to advance to the finals held at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

Casey is chair of the intellectual property and the IP litigation groups at Stradley Ronon and an active member of the alternative dispute resolution, education and appellate groups.

He counseled clients for over 30 years in all aspects of the IP field, focusing on patents, trademarks, trade secrets, licensing and opinions.

He served as judge to the Temple Law IP Moot Court team for several years. Casey also was lead litigation counsel and participated as assistant counsel in more than 60 cases.

He has an active appellate practice before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, where he clerked for former Chief Judge Helen Nies.

Speakers

Robert O'Brien, president of Atlantic Security International Investigations, Inc., is set to present a CLE seminar titled “Fighting Fraud.”

O'Brien will address identifying fraud, what to do if fraud is detected, and tools to mitigate fraudulent claims.

O'Brien began his career as a county investigator in Monmouth County, New Jersey. He then worked at two private investigative firms.

He locates and obtains database information on subjects under investigation and consults on various investigations.

The event is scheduled to be held at Capehart Scatchard from noon to 1:30 p.m. April 9 and is approved for 1.8 New Jersey credits, 1.5 Pennsylvania credits (pending).
