Filing Fanatics

A perjury conviction hasn't stopped former Philadelphia Traffic Court Judge Willie Singletary from running for a spot on Philadelphia City Council, but it likely means he'll be barred from appearing on the primary ballot.

Late last month, Philadelphia Judge Stella Tsai officially removed Singletary from the race, determining that the ex-judge was ineligible to appear on the May primary ballot. Singletary, who was sentenced in 2015 to 20 months in prison for lying to federal agents investigating ticket-fixing in Philadelphia Traffic Court, has since appealed.

As part of that appeals process, Tsai issued an opinion yesterday outlining her reasoning for why Singletary should not appear on the primary ballot.

Here's a hint: It has to do with his conviction.
