Additions

Thomas, Thomas & Hafer announced the hiring of Andrew T. Kravitz. Kravitz will be working out of the firm's Harrisburg office. He practices in the fields of workers' compensation, employment law and civil litigation.

Kravitz has experience in Pennsylvania workers' compensation litigation. He litigated numerous cases before the Workers' Compensation Judges, Workers' Compensation Appeal Board and Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania.

Honored

The Pennsylvania Bar Association Conference of County Bar Leaders honored Elizabeth G. Simcox with its 2019 Gilbert Nurick Award for her commitment to being an ambassador for the Dauphin County Bar Association, the PBA and the legal profession. The award was presented during the 53rd annual Seminar of the Conference of County Bar Leaders.

The award is given to a member of the PBA who exhibits dedication and service to the leadership and promotion of the organized bar and its activities.

After more than seven years of service, Simcox retired from her post as executive director of the DCBA in December 2018. During her time there, she networked with other executive directors from local bar associations to learn about and integrate best practices to advance the DCBA.

Simcox served as the associate director of development at Penn State Dickinson Law in Carlisle, the dean of students and director of externships at Widener University Commonwealth Law School in Harrisburg, and a coordinator of its bar prep programs.

Simcox worked as an assistant prosecuting attorney in the Wood County Prosecutor's Office in Ohio, a co-director of the Dispute Resolution Clinic at the University of Toledo College of Law and a sole practitioner in the area of family law and juvenile mediation.

Simcox is a member of the Dauphin County, Pennsylvania and American bar associations, as well as the Pennsylvania Association of Bar Executives.

Simcox is a board member of the Howard and Libby Rosen Center for Healthy Families.

Speakers

Darlene K. King was an invited speaker at “Medical Malpractice: How to Prevent and Defend,” a seminar presented by the Chicago Urological Society in conjunction with the Chicago Medical Society.

The program addressed reasons urologists may be sued, how to improve physician habits to decrease the risk of getting sued and enhance patient outcomes, the process of a medical malpractice lawsuit, and how insurance companies deal with malpractice claims.

King's presentation, “Urological Malpractice: How to Prevent and Minimize Risk,” focused on strategies to reduce urology litigation exposure and concurrently enhance patient engagement.

King is the chair of Saxton & Stump's risk mitigation and safety group. King concentrates her practice in the representation of hospitals, doctors and health care professionals. She guides health care clients with issues involving risk mitigation, crisis management and quality assurance.
