James C. Schwartzman, a partner and chair of the ethics and professional responsibility group at Stevens & Lee, received the Villanova Law Alumni Association Award for Public Service.
The award recognizes service by Villanova Law alumni to society and is presented annually to alumni who distinguish themselves with professional and personal achievements and who dedicate their time and service to their communities.
Schwartzman has experience representing and counseling lawyers, law firms and judges on ethics-related issues. He has trial experience in civil and criminal matters.
In 2018, he was appointed by Gov. Tom Wolf to the Pennsylvania Court of Judicial Discipline and previously served as chairman of the Pennsylvania Judicial Conduct Board.
He is a former chairman of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania's disciplinary board, continuing legal education board and the interest on lawyers' trust accounts board.
Schwartzman is a former assistant U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and was a law clerk for the U.S. District Judge J. William Ditter Jr. for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
He taught courses at the Attorney General's Advocacy Institute and Temple University Beasley School of Law.

Trish Lilley, chief marketing and business development officer for law firm Stroock & Stroock & Lavan, was honored by the College of Law Practice Management as a 2019 fellow-elect.
Fellowship in the college is awarded to legal management professionals who exemplify high standards and achievements in the industry.
Lilley helped found the Legal Marketing Association's Philadelphia chapter, where she served as the chapter's first secretary.
She first served as a sponsorship committee and programming committee member for the Metro Philly City Group and later as sponsorship chair for the LMA Northeast Region.
Lilley currently serves as the LMA Northeast Regional board of directors 2019 president.
Lilley and the new fellows-elect are set to be inducted at the 2019 Future Conference black-tie dinner at the Belmont University College of Law in Nashville, Tennessee, from October 24 to 25.

Courtney Devon Taylor was elevated to partner at Schnader Harrison Segal & Lewis.
She joined the firm as counsel in 2015. Taylor is vice-chair of the securities litigation practice group, resident in the firm's Philadelphia and New York offices.
She focuses her practice on commercial litigation, as well as on securities litigation and enforcement.
Taylor is a member of the Friends Academy alumni association board and served as chairman of the board of directors for Directions for Our Youth, Inc.

Margolis Edelstein announced that Brooke Hanley was elevated to partner at the firm.
Hanley is based in Margolis Edelstein's Philadelphia office, where she defends insured and self-insured entities in a variety of casualty litigation contexts, including construction and automobile accidents and premises liability.
She joined the firm after clerking for Judge Cristen P. D'Arrigo for the Superior Court of New Jersey. While clerking, she assisted in various court proceedings, including numerous trials.
She also served as a certified mediator, mediating cases at a one hundred-percent success rate.
Hanley earned her Juris Doctor at Drexel University Thomas R. Kline School of Law.

Patricia Hamill, Conrad O'Brien partner and chair of the firm's Title IX, due process and campus discipline practice group, presented at the Pennsylvania Bar Institute's Employment Law Institute on “Title IX in the Employment Context: Representing Faculty and Staff Accused of Sexual Misconduct.”
Hamill shared her experience in representing accused students and faculty in Title IX disciplinary proceedings and related litigation.
Topics included practical tips for handling disciplinary proceedings; legal theories available to challenge responsibility findings and sanctions; and key legal issues that arise in these cases both in general and specific to faculty.

The case, filed Oct. 2 in Massachusetts District Court by the Brown Law Firm on behalf of Stephen Austen, accuses certain officers and directors of misleading investors in regard to Symbotic's potential for margin growth by failing to disclose that the company was not equipped to timely deploy its systems or manage expenses through project delays. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton, is 1:24-cv-12522, Austen v. Cohen et al.

The action, filed Oct. 7 in New York Southern District Court by the Brown Law Firm, accuses the company's directors and/or officers of falsely expressing confidence in the company’s restructuring of its sales incentive plan and downplaying the severity of decreases in its upfront commitments. David X. Sullivan, Thomas J. Finn and Gregory A. Hall from McCarter & English have entered appearances for Sunrun Installation Services in a pending civil rights lawsuit. The complaint was filed Sept. 4 in Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M. Berke on behalf of former employee George Edward Steins, who was arrested and charged with employing an unregistered home improvement salesperson. The complaint alleges that had Sunrun informed the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection that the plaintiff's employment had ended in 2017 and that he no longer held Sunrun's home improvement contractor license, he would not have been hit with charges, which were dismissed in May 2024. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Jeffrey A. Meyer, is 3:24-cv-01423, Steins v. Sunrun, Inc. et al.
