- On May 14, Philadelphia VIP will hold a pro bono volunteer training program titled, “The Nuts and Bolts of Representing a Tenant in Municipal Court: Introduction to Landlord/Tenant Law,” from 8:30 to 11 a.m., at Cozen O' Connor, 1650 Market St., Suite 2800, Philadelphia. - On May 15, Philadelphia VIP will hold a pro bono volunteer training program titled, “Custody: Providing Stability for Families,” from noon to 2:30 p.m., at DLA Piper, 1650 Market St., Suite 5000, Philadelphia. - On May 16, the Philadelphia Bar Association, the public interest section and the Elder Justice and Civil Resource Center (EJCRC) will cohost a CLE program, “Limited Scope Representation—Ethical Considerations & Their Practical Applications,” from 9 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., at the Philadelphia Bar Association, 1101 Market St., Philadelphia. This CLE program will cover some of the most common issues that volunteer attorneys are likely to encounter, with possible solutions for the situations, as reported by EJCRC staff. The program will focus on limited scope representation, including an examination of both the ethical and practical applications of this model of client service. Visit philadelphiabar.org.
- On May 16, Philadelphia VIP will host its signature fundraising event, “Brushstrokes for Justice,” from 5:30 to 8 p.m., at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts' (PAFA) Historic Landmark Building, 118-128 N. - On May 19, the Philadelphia Bar Association will hold its 40th Annual Philadelphia Bar Association Run-Walk, beginning at 7:30 a.m., at Memorial Hall, Fairmount Park, 4231 Avenue of the Republic, Philadelphia. This year marks the 40th anniversary of the association's run-walk. To celebrate this milestone, a 10K race option has been added. The 10K run begins at 7:30 a.m., the 5K run begins at 7:45 a.m. All proceeds from this event benefit the Support Center for Child Advocates. To register, please visit https://bit.ly/2Hoixmz.
- On May 22 and 23, the ACLU of Pennsylvania will host the ACLU 100 Experience, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., at the 23rd Street Armory, 22 S. 23rd St., Philadelphia. The ACLU 100 interactive traveling exhibit showcases some of the ACLU's work in a never-before-seen way and will run for two days, including a variety of live programming and entertainment, food and music. Meet leading civil rights activists. This is a family-friendly event that is free and open to all. Visit ACLU100.org.
- On May 22, the ACLU of Pennsylvania will host the Greater Philadelphia Chapter 2019 Annual Gathering, from 5:30 to 8 p.m., at the 23rd Street Armory, 22 S. 23rd St., Philadelphia. The gathering will take place at the ACLU's 100 interactive traveling exhibit that marks its 100th anniversary and showcases some of the ACLU's work in a never-before-seen way. Deputy director of the ACLU's racial justice program, Nusrat Choudhury, will speak about national efforts that are driving criminal justice reform, and Reggie Shuford, ACLU-PA executive director, will discuss the ACLU's progress across the commonwealth and the challenges that remain ahead. - On May 30, June 6 and 13, and July 11 and 18, and June 21 and 28 and July 26, the Philadelphia Bar Association's public interest section and law school outreach committee, will host the “2019 Summer Brown Bag Lunch Series,” from noon to 1:30 p.m., at the Philadelphia Bar Association, 1101 Market St., Philadelphia. These free programs provide an opportunity for summer law student interns to meet public interest attorneys who are leaders in their field and learn about different types of public interest practice and fellowship opportunities in the greater Philadelphia area. Driscoll from Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr have stepped in to represent Symbotic Inc., an A.I.-enabled technology platform that focuses on increasing supply chain efficiency, and other defendants in a pending shareholder derivative lawsuit. The case, filed Oct. 2 in Massachusetts District Court by the Brown Law Firm on behalf of Stephen Austen, accuses certain officers and directors of misleading investors in regard to Symbotic's potential for margin growth by failing to disclose that the company was not equipped to timely deploy its systems or manage expenses through project delays. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton, is 1:24-cv-12522, Austen v. Cohen et al.

Edmund Polubinski and Marie Killmond of Davis Polk & Wardwell have entered appearances for data platform software development company MongoDB and other defendants in a pending shareholder derivative lawsuit. The action, filed Oct. 7 in New York Southern District Court by the Brown Law Firm, accuses the company's directors and/or officers of falsely expressing confidence in the company’s restructuring of its sales incentive plan and downplaying the severity of decreases in its upfront commitments. The case is 1:24-cv-07594, Roy v. Ittycheria et al.

The suit was filed Sept. 7 in Wisconsin Western District Court by Levine Eisberner LLC and Siri & Glimstad on behalf of a project manager who claims that he was wrongfully terminated after applying for a religious exemption to the defendant's COVID-19 vaccine mandate. The case, assigned to U.S. Magistrate Judge Anita Marie Boor, is 3:24-cv-00630, Secker, Nathan v. Epic Systems Corporation.

David X. Sullivan, Thomas J. Finn and Gregory A. Hall from McCarter & English have entered appearances for Sunrun Installation Services in a pending civil rights lawsuit. The complaint was filed Sept. 4 in Connecticut District Court by attorney Robert M. Berke on behalf of former employee George Edward Steins, who was arrested and charged with employing an unregistered home improvement salesperson. The complaint alleges that had Sunrun informed the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection that the plaintiff's employment had ended in 2017 and that he no longer held Sunrun's home improvement contractor license, he would not have been hit with charges, which were dismissed in May 2024. The case, assigned to U.S. District Judge Jeffrey A. Meyer, is 3:24-cv-01423, Steins v. Sunrun, Inc. et al.
